What makes for sustainable Health for All

The course provides an accessible introduction and overview of global and planetary health, with opportunities to learn more detail by using the links and further reading provided. It places health in the context of our relationship to the ecosystem of the planet.

This course is suitable for anyone wanting an introduction to global and planetary health. It will be particularly useful for healthcare professionals as it meets the recommendations of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges (AoMRC) for what healthcare professionals need to know about global health.

This course has been written and will be facilitated by Dr John Acres and Dr Rachel Locke. Dr Acres coordinates the Wessex Global Health Network and is a Visiting Fellow in the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing's Centre for Global Health. Dr Rachel Locke is a Senior Lecturer in International Development: Global Health in the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing and a convenor of the University's Centre for Global Health.

Course Description

Course description

The course will include approximately 10 hours online self paced study. The online learning contains videos, reading materials and resources for participants to use as part of their learning. There will be the opportunity to interact with other learners and the course leader through the discussion board and through posting comments on the ‘chat’. The course will be open to particpants for 6 weeks from start date.

On completion of the course, participants will be issued a certificate of completion from the University.

Entry Requirements

Although this course is predominately aimed at health care professionals (doctors, nurses, allied health professionals) interested in improving their knowledge and understanding of global health, it does not require prior knowledge or experience and should be accessible to a wide range of learners.

A good command of the English Language is required, both written and oral.

This distance-learning, self study components of the course are delivered via Canvas. Due to government regulations, Instructure (Canvas) prohibits the unauthorised use of its products and services in specific countries and regions. Cost

The fee is £150.

Cancellation by the University

University of Winchester reserves the right to cancel a course (if, for example, there are insufficient numbers). If this occurs, we will refund your course fee in full.

The University of Winchester reserves the right to refund the course fee and not supply the course where the University considers it may be liable for taxes outside the UK as a result of supplying the course.

Cancellation by you

Refunds will be given if written notification is received at least 14 days before the start of a course with a fixed course date. No refunds will be given with less than 14 days written notice, but you will be given the option to transfer to a future iteration of the course where one will be running.

Transferring course

For courses with a fixed start date, students wishing to transfer to a future iteration of the course can do so up to 7 days after a course has commenced, but must send written notification of this to the course administrator.
